The Fatherhood of God

This month we focus on understanding the fatherhood of God. We learn that our Heavenly Father desires to be in relationship with us. We learn that unlike earthly fathers, He always has the best intentions for His children and He always has the ability to carry them out.

[O]ne God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
-Ephesians 4:6 (NIV)

Knowing and Doing Article

“Lord, teach us to pray.”

(This is one part of a two-part series on Growing in Prayer.  Part 1, Part 2)

Luke says this simple request came after Jesus’ disciples had seen Him praying (11:1). Jesus, they had ‌observed, was a man of prayer. Each of the Gospel writers emphasizes this point.
That was the introduction to my first year as a pastor. It was quite a shock, especially because both men were professing Christians. Wouldn’t their professed love for Jesus make a difference in their other relationships?

Reflections

Let us not take God’s blessings for granted, but to instead give thanks to Him and remember to pray for His daily provision.

As many in the church today become slaves to the latest in theological fashion ... Lewis reminds us that our faith is solid, timeless, and is not meant to change from what Jesus and the Apostles taught 2,000 years ago.

Pray and ask God to help us better obey Him, not because of what He can do for us, but rather, because of Who He is.

Keeping the Faith

Worthy firsts make history: first to complete a voyage, to prove a great theory, to walk on the moon. Founders are firsts who also leave a legacy: founder of a movement, of an institution, of an industry. However, to be considered a father requires something deeper, more sacrificial and more personal. The title of “father” is reserved for the greatest contributors to the highest causes.
