Hannah W. Smith

Hannah W. Smith, Author, (1832-1911) an American evangelist and reformer, a public speaker and writer in the Holiness movement of the late 19th century and the Higher Life movement in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. She was also active in the Women’s suffrage movement and the Temperance movement. Hannah published The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life, Every-day Religion; or The Common-sense Teaching of the Bible and The Unselfishness of God and How I Discovered It: A Spiritual Autobiography, as well as numerous pamphlets, tracts, and articles. She became a prominent advocate of college education for women. Hannah helped found the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union in 1874 and in 1883 became superintendent of its new Evangelistic Department.
