Donald S. Whitney, Professor of Biblical Spirituality and Associate Dean at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He is the founder and president of The Center for Biblical Spirituality. His degrees include a M.Div., Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; D.Min., Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; Ph.D., University of the Free State. He has served local churches in pastoral ministry for 24 years. He is the author of Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life, which has a companion Study Guide. He has also written How Can I Be Sure I'm a Christian?, Spiritual Disciplines Within the Church, Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Health, Simplify Your Spiritual Life, Finding God in Solitude, Praying the Bible, and Family Worship.

A.B. Simpson, (1843 – 1919) was a Canadian preacher, theologian, author, and founder of The Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), an evangelical protestant denomination with an emphasis on global evangelism. He was one of the most respected Christian figures in American evangelicalism. He published over 70 books, edited a weekly magazine for nearly 40 years, and wrote many gospel songs and poems. After graduating from Knox College in Toronto in 1865, Simpson accepted his first pastorate at Knox Church in Hamilton, one of Canada’s largest and most influential congregations. Some of his works include, A Larger Christian Life, The Life of Prayer and Christ in the Tabernacle.

Lewis Benedictus Smedes, Professor, (1921 — 2002) was a renowned Christian author, ethicist, and theologian in the Reformed tradition. He was a professor of theology and ethics for twenty-five years at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. In addition to many articles, Smedes wrote many popular books including Forgive & Forget: Healing the Hurts We Don't Deserve, Standing on the Promises, Choices: Making Right Decisions in a Complex World, Mere Morality: What God Expects From Ordinary People, A Life of Distinction and My God and I, a Spiritual Memoir.

Roger C. Palms, Professor, was editor of Decision Magazine for 22 years. He is also a former pastor and university campus chaplain. He is the author of 15 books, some of which have been translated into seven other languages and has written hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles. Palms is a writing teacher who has taught and/or written in 48 countries, including writer's conferences, theological seminaries, and colleges. He earned a BA from Wayne State University, B. Div. from Eastern Baptist Seminary, M. Div. from Eastern Baptist Seminary, D.D., from Eastern Baptist Seminary, M.A., Michigan State University. Some of his books include An Unexpected Hope, Bible Readings On Hope, Pleasure Of His Company and Enjoying The Closeness Of God.

Arthur W. Lindsley is the Vice President of Theological Initiatives at the Institute for Faith, Works, & Economics. He has served at the C.S. Lewis Institute since 1987 both as President until 1998 and currently as Senior Fellows for Apologetics. Formerly, he was director of Educational Ministries at the Ligonier Valley Study Center, and Staff Specialist with the Coalition for Christian Outreach. He is the author of C.S. Lewis's Case for Christ, True Truth, Love: The Ultimate Apologetic, and co-author with R.C. Sproul and John Gerstner of Classical Apologetics, and has written numerous articles on theology, apologetics, C.S. Lewis, and the lives and works of many other authors and teachers. Art earned his M.Div. from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was a German theologian, pastor, seminary teacher and resistance operative against the Nazis during World War II. Dietrich received his doctorate from Berlin University in 1927 and lectured in the theological faculty during the early thirties. He was ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1931 and served in two congregations. Bonhoeffer was also head of the Confessing Church’s seminary at Finkenwalde. Convicted of a conspiracy to assassinate Hitler, he was executed by the Nazi SS in 1945, one month before the Germans surrendered. His most well-known works include The Cost of Discipleship, Life Together, Ethics and Letters and Papers from Prison.

John Henry Newman, (1801 – 1890) was a 19th-century English-speaking Catholic theologian. He was a priest, preacher, writer, and eminent theologian in both Catholic and Anglican churches. He studied at Oxford’s Trinity College, was a tutor at Oriel College, and for 17 years was vicar of the university church. John Henry Newman was ordained a Catholic priest in Rome and for seven years served as rector of the Catholic University of Ireland. Newman wrote 40 books and 21,000 letters that survive today. Most famous are his Essays on the Development of Christian Doctrine, On Consulting the Faithful in Matters of Doctrine, Apologia Pro Vita Sua—his spiritual autobiography up to 1864, and Essay on the Grammar of Assent.

Ugolino Boniscambi, a 14th century Italian friar, was the author of the Actus Beati Francisci et Sociorum Eius (The Deeds of Blessed Francis and His Companions) which was translated into the Italian Tuscan dialect by an anonymous translator and named Fioretti di Santo Francesco d' Ascesi or The Little Flowers of Saint Francis of Assisi. The work was a collection of anecdotes regarding the life of St. Francis and his early disciples.
