The C.S. Lewis Institute partners with Barnabas Foundation to serve our friends by providing comprehensive charitable gift and will planning services. Together, we can help you provide biblically-based guidance and tax-wise charitable options to enable you to achieve your personal, financial and spiritual goals. Through long-range planning, you can ensure that your spiritual legacy will impact the Kingdom, as well as provide for your family’s future, while minimizing income and estate and gift taxes.
Planned Giving Options
This overview of options and benefits will help you understand the range of strategies that are available to you to provide long-term planning that will ensure your spiritual legacy and impact Kingdom work as well as provide for your family’s future.
Planning Your Legacy: Christian Guide to Planning Your Will and Trust
This step-by-step guide will help you plan for your family the stewardship of property that God has entrusted to you.
Non-Cash Gifts
These are non-cash gifts such as real estate, stocks, commodities, and business interests. Asset-based giving is a tax smart way to extend your impact for the causes of Christ. Non-cash complex gifts such as real estate, business interests, retirement savings, life insurance, stocks or commodities can be donated supporting Kingdom work while reducing your taxes.
Charitable Gift Annuities
Through our partnership with Barnabas Foundation, the C.S. Lewis Institute offers a means to give that can provide income for life while realizing immediate tax benefits. By utilizing a Charitable Gift Annuity, your gift pays you an income for as long as you, or you and your spouse, live. The percentage of the annual payment is based on your age at the time the gift is made and will not change in spite of market fluctuations. If you establish a charitable gift annuity in exchange for a donation of cash or securities, you not only receive income for life but also charitable tax deduction for a portion of the gift. After you are gone, the remainder of the gift will support the discipleship ministry for the C.S. Lewis Institute, and other organizations that you select.
IRA Charitable Rollover Gifting
The IRA Charitable Rollover allows donors 70 ½ or over to make direct charitable gifts from your IRA. The gift may come from both Traditional and Roth IRA accounts without any federal tax liability. The gift can also count for all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), but no tax deduction is allowed to the owner of the IRA.
Barnabas Foundation provides trust services for Charitable Remainder and Charitable Lead Trusts. A Charitable Lead Trust enables you to make a gift to a charity while passing much of your estate to your children free of taxes. A Charitable Remainder Trust provides income to you for your life or a specified period of years. At the end of the Trust term, the remaining balance in the Trust is distributed to charities of your choice. You receive a charitable tax deduction at the time of the gift to the Trust.
Donor-Advised Fund
(Stewards Fund)
The use of a donor-advised fund is one of the best ways to maximize and simplify giving to charities of your choice. You make a one-time gift to the fund and decide later how you want to distribute funds to your favorite charities. You will receive an immediate tax benefit in the year of the donation, but can distribute to charities as you determine which charities you want to support. Donating appreciated securities or other assets also allows you to avoid capital gains tax.
