What will you do when it's over?
What will you do when it’s over? Are you imagining and planning what you’ll do when COVID-19 is behind us? When the doors are open again and we can get back to normal. What will you do first? Get together with your family - your friends? Go to church? Get your hair cut?
Whew! Life with COVID-19 has been trying! It’s tested us in brand new ways. We’ve been separated from our loved ones. It’s been so hard not seeing, not touching and holding our children, grandchildren, parents. We’ve missed family get-togethers and the chemistry of joy and laughter filling a room.
We’ve missed the camaraderie, working side-by-side to move a project to completion. The routine schedules, the predictability of knowing what would happen in any given week.
We’ve had to think about germs, and contagion and safety in a whole new way.
There are so many things we’ve missed!
It’s a lot like what life was like as a leper in Jesus’s day. In the moment of their diagnosis, they were shut down from the very fiber of life. Isolated. Shut away from their loved ones. They must have been exceedingly lonely.
Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
Luke 17:11-19
Of course all 10 of them were grateful! How could they not be! The release - the joy - must have been phenomenal. Oh! to get back to NORMAL again! It’s very understanding that they would rush back into the life they had longed for. One man, though, was different. One man fell on his face at Jesus’ feet and gave him thanks. One man put first things first and honored and thanked his LORD.
Let’s do that too. When it’s over, before we do anything else, let’s thank God.
Let’s plan for that thanksgiving! Let’s start talking and planning with our loved ones about how we’ll thank God.
Will you kneel before God, giving Him praise? Will you sing songs of thanksgiving? Will you write poems of thanksgiving? Will you create art showing your thanksgiving?
