Prayer Blockers
Still ringing in my ears are the words of a 12-year-old religious skeptic: "I don't think there's really a God up there. Once I prayed all summer for a 10-speed bike, but I never got one." Or maybe it's the disappointment of a teenaged girl: "I don't understand why God won't give me a boyfriend." A young couple spends years preparing for overseas missions, only to find the door closed. A committed wife prays for the salvation of her spouse, but he is as distant as ever from the Lord. A Christian candidate for public office asks the Lord for victory, but on election night there is no celebration.
Perhaps the ringing in my ears is the sound of my own voice. All of us at one time or another have struggled with not receiving something from the Lord.
