Transcending Political Polarization

Following the Call to Biblical Peacemaking in the Midst of Heightened Political Polarization

With political polarization on the rise, many of us struggle to know how to engage in conversations with people with whom we disagree in a way that balances both our moral convictions as Christians and our call to be “peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9)

This event features interactive workshops that explore the dynamics that fuel toxic political polarization, what it means to be a peacemaker, and practical ways laypeople and leaders can live into that call within their family, church and community.

Reverend Brandon Cleaver is the Matthew 5:9 Director at the One America Movement. He views the pursuit of unity as an integral part of his life. Brandon served as co-chapter director for the Wayne State Ratio Christi chapter. He served on the Stephen Ministry leadership team at Kensington Community Church and occasionally serves alongside Inner City Detroit Cru and Serve the City-Detroit. Brandon graduated from Michigan State University with a major in Journalism and a minor in Sociology. He completed a Master’s in Christian Apologetics from Biola University and a Master’s of Divinity in Interdisciplinary Studies through Moody Theological Seminary.

Tom Breedon is the Senior Pastoral Advisor at the One America Movement. He is a Teaching Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America and previously served as the Associate Pastor at Grace Community Church in Charlottesville, VA. There he led the church’s efforts in adult discipleship and community engagement. Tom holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Virginia, an M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary – Washington, D.C.

Keith Myer has been a pastor serving in the Southern Baptist Convention for over twenty years, most recently at Harvest Baptist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. He serves as a trustee of Gateway Seminary in California, as the Associational Missionary for the Eastern Baptist Association, and as the Chair of the BCM/D Sexual Abuse Reform Task Force. Keith has an M.Div from Columbia International University and an M.B.A. in Leadership from Liberty University.
